FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How current is the data?

The data is current as of November, 2009. It is updated monthly.

Excel tells me "File not loaded completely."

Excel is just a spreadsheet, not a database. It does not have enough capacity to display one of these data files (except the smallest, the US Preferred data). You will need to use a database program (Access, FileMaker, etc.) or a text editor (Notepad, Wordpad, Word, etc.) to view them.

If you're looking for a complete software program that allows you to work with the data, then ZIP Master might be a better choice.

In what format do I receive the data, and what data does it contain?

See the detailed description on this page.

How do I get updates?

Zipwise data is available either as a one-time download, or with quarterly or monthly updates. If you've purchased a version that includes updates, just go here to download your updates.

How accurate is the data?

Our data comes directly from the US Postal Service, which is the principal authority for this database. Therefore, Zipwise represents only that this data is as correct as is provided by the US Postal Service.

Does this have street addresses? Is it 5-digit ZIP codes, or is it ZIP+4?

This is the 5-digit ZIP code only. There is one record per ZIP code, showing the USPS primary city, county, etc. for each.

How many ZIP code records are in there?

There are presently about 42095 correct, current US ZIP codes. We do not include old dead zip codes. We list one record per ZIP code, and the USPS primary information for each: city, county, etc. We do not list multiple cities per ZIP code.

I just bought your database, and a lot of the ZIP codes only have 3 or 4 digits.

Many ZIP codes start with 0 or 00. They do appear correctly in our database. But if you import them into another program as numbers rather than as text strings, your program may not display any leading zeros. Import them as text strings instead. If you're viewing them in Excel, format your zip code field as '00000' to see all five characters.
